poetry collection

A bilingual edition

Language: English / Slovenian

Status: in preparation

+Description:

Sinapse (2003), the debut poetry collection by Andrej Grilc, introduces a young poet deeply engaged with the complexity of growing up and finding one’s place in the world. The poems move between moments of intimacy and reflection, exploring themes of sensuality, emotional vulnerability, and the pain of confronting a world that often feels both beautiful and cruel.

Through his distinctive use of language, Grilc experiments with form and meaning, treating poetry itself as a living, evolving organism — a synapse between thought and emotion, self and world. His verses reach toward understanding the big questions of existence while remaining rooted in the personal and the immediate.

Sinapse stands out for its emotional depth, linguistic precision, and philosophical curiosity. It captures the restless energy of youth and the desire to make sense of experience through art. The collection’s originality and maturity earned Grilc a scholarship for exceptionally talented students, affirming his early promise as one of the notable emerging poetic voices of his generation.

+Description:

The Towers by Andrej Grilc is a powerful poetic reflection on memory, trauma, and the collapse of innocence in the modern world. Written in the aftermath of September 11, this bilingual edition weaves personal recollection with collective history, exploring how private and public catastrophes intertwine. Through a series of lyrical fragments, Grilc connects the burning towers of New York with the bombed towers of his Slovenian childhood, creating a dialogue between East and West, war and art, faith and loss. The collection moves from vivid childhood memories to visionary depictions of global disillusionment, where skyscrapers become symbols of both human achievement and fragility. At once intimate and epic, The Towers reflects on how images of destruction shape our understanding of civilization. It questions the moral and spiritual aftermath of progress, technology, and ideology. Grilc’s language is cinematic and musical, fusing reportage, dream, and myth. Beneath the ruins, the poet searches for meaning — for poetry that survives the fall. The Towers is a work of remembrance, defiance, and transcendence.
